(yes she is wearing a sparkling barret, and yes she is oh so fab with all of her accessories...even though she could shed some. But I do admire her bold choices. Oh so bad ass fab...)
Some FUN facts
- she has costumed Leonardo DiCaprio at least 4 times...I counted!
-She is British and studied Theater Design at London's Central School of Art
-Oh, and she has 3 Oscars. No biggie...
And to top it off an inspiring quote which reveals a lot about her design:
"Unless of course the film requires it, I'm not interested in an exact replica of the period. I look at the period, how it should be, how it could be, and then I do my own version." [Time, 22 Feb, 1999]

da roof, da roof, da roof is on fiya

I found that if you are ever broed in vegas, just look up!
Here are some of the most impressive ceilings I found, it's too bad I didn't think to take more pictures at the time ....
(so this one isn't really a ceiling, but its a look up!)

gilmore strikes back: my look at his favorite artisits

So, these are all artists that my drawing and painting prof. loves and insists we all should know a thing or two about. So, I did a little google-ing and saw Calder and Lawrence's work in Seattle at the SAM last month.
The Calder exhibit was, to say the least, mind blowing. Photographs of his work just don't do justice to their innovative and crazy construction and composition. I consider his work to be the "theater" of the art world. Like theater is living and changing, Calder's work, more specifically his mobiles, are ever changing and moving compositions. He creates shapes which jump forward and backward in space, he is playful with his color and his use of sound in his works. I could stand and watch just one of his mobiles for any length of time and be continually entertained and amazed by each new composition and angle I find. And Jacob Lawrence's work can only be cheesily described as moving. The way in which he commands and manipulates line to convey pain in The Struggle #2 is awe inspiring. One day my friends, one day I will do that too. And Jack Levine is just fabulous and lives in Greenwich Village in nyc. So woo hoo for fab old men! Here are some of my favorites-
