flowers.

September
Recently I moved into my own apartment, and I am in love. I inherited pretty much all of my furniture (including this blue vase) from very good friends of mine who have all just graduated and flown away from Spokane. Having flowers in this vase became a symbol of my independence and adulthood, as well as a reminder that people love me (well, at least they like me enough to give me their stuff for free). Ultimately, they tell me every morning that I am lovable. I hope to continue this series until I move in May (and who knows, maybe I'll keep painting a vase of flowers till I keel over).

So, I know that this blog should be just for my art. However, I just want to fill it with things that inspire me. My trip home was so refreshing! Now, a month later, the sky is turning to fall and my brain is grasping onto summer. And in my mind, nothing signifies summer more than California (but margaritas & midnight shenanigans take a close second). These photos are more for my own coping than anything else. So yes, enjoy them.

Genos in Spokane. (It's not California, but it belongs in this post)

It's September, and you know what that means? It's drawing time again! My recent challenge for myself is perfecting the 3/4 view from below. Difficult? Yes. Impossible? Hell no! Hopefully we shall see a journey of improvement over the next month as I get a little obsessive with angles and fight that damn mouth to the death.

All I can say is, "Well self, challenge accepted."

ps. I really need to start taking pictures with and actual camera...and not just my iphone.

Tummy Monster: THE RETURN

 The Epic: Tummy Monster #2
Oil on Canvas

The return of the epic tummy battle! Although I'm not quite satisfied with the flow of this painting, I really enjoy how this one melts down the canvas (hooray for over using turpentine!) Needless to say my obsession with this image has not subsided and there will be more Tummy Monsters to come...depending on if I ever quite get time to pursue my own work. But, this is the beauty of going home and having no responsibilities for 3 weeks-  I have time to paint weird creepy things I can't quite get away with working on at school... boo stupid Jesuit fear of nudity.

Once upon a time...

Snow White & Drizella Tremain : they would do anything for love.
8x8 Canvas and Gouache

Once upon a time, there lived a stunning woman named Acacia who was besties with two of the silliest princesses in all of the magical kingdom. And every day Acacia yearned for a painting of her two friends. Until one day, she asked her beautiful and oh so talented friend Maura to paint them for her. Maura gladly accepted, especially seeing as Acacia's birthday was just around the corner. First, Maura consulted her squirrel friends as how to best tie these princesses together. Then, she toiled with pencils and gouache for days. After a little singing and some hard work, Maura had created a masterpiece and surprised Acacia with the gift on her birthday! And ever since that day, Acacia has treasured the paintings of her best friends, as she knows they are an enchanted token of Maura's love and friendship. The end.
